I went to the World Vegetarian Festival this past weekend in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. I came away inspired -- not only from the intelligence and integrity of doctors who have devoted their lives to healing people through a healthy diet, not only from the animal activists who bring uncomfortable facts into the light of people's consciousness, but especially from Howard Lyman's talk about individual action and sustainable agriculture. Lyman, a 4th generation cattle rancher-turned-vegan, emphasized that we cannot change other people but we can change ourselves and live up to what we believe is right.
I've been "vegan" since my birthday last year. I put vegan in quotes because I've been a mostly vegan with occasional dairy in the form of junk food. But really. I'm mad at myself about that. I'd like to do better.
I'm going to use this blog to brainstorm ideas and track my progress. Hopefully I will inspire others also.
